the one in the picture is rather a chinese dress, but in the shop near victoria where it was sold they called it a kimono. for some reason its particular cut, design and colour, slightly decussate in me, eugène says. but beyond that, in his opinion, its golden brocade on red silk are of absolute nobility; makes one think of sei shonagon gossiping with friends during a rainy morning in kyoto's imperial palace. it is a shame, he feels, to see it so out of context, so downgraded, so cheaply made, and even worse, potentially being worn by people who do not truly deserve it. what was sublime becomes ridiculous.
